If you haven't noticed, we have the most amazing network of resources available for camp ideas right in front of us... the internet! There are tons of great websites out there to explore and help us make camp the best ever. These websites might have song lyrics, games to play, crafts to make, or maybe articles to read - all beneficial to you working at camp.
The Challenge (TWO PARTS):
1. Choose ONE camp related website that you enjoy. Post the link. Also include something specific that you have found on this website to help you at camp or that you are planning to use this summer.
2. Click on the previous posts' website and explore. Find something you like on that website that you find useful to you and camp.
Prize to the first TWO posts: A set of Camp Seafarer (Y camp in N. Carolina) Silly Bandz
Since whoever posts first needs a website to explore (part 2), a website that I enjoy is http://www.animatedknots.com/indexclimbing.php I found this website specifically helpful before Belay Training last year when I wanted to refresh my memory on how to tie our climbing knot (Double Figure 8 Loop). This website gives excellent, step-by-step clear directions and video on how to tie many useful knots.
http://www.ultimatecampresource.com/site/camp-activities/ This is a website that is great for anyone looking for fun ways to get campers involved. For me personally I could definitely see myself using this website to find ideas for helping teach specific leadership skills as the site has the activities broken down into categories by what kind of activity they are and what each activity focuses on. For example under the games category they have smaller groups of games for cooperative games, nature games, circle games, and so much more.
ReplyDeleteFor the knot tying website mentioned above I think that the scouting section is super helpful too. I found it to be kind of fun looking at all the knots I know I knew how to tie at one point but have forgotten so I think this is a great refresher site for those of us who may have forgotten some of the knots.
http://www.greenghoulie.com/games/index.html This is a great webiste to leran camp songs and games. There are hilarious videos and lots of fun infomration that we can all use at camp.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dutchovencookware.com/dutch-oven-recipes.html This is one of my favorite sites. I learned how many different things you can cook in a Dutch Oven from this website. I think EVERYONE should visit this site and pick one new thing to make this summer with campers.
Liz picked the best camp resource website out there, ultimatecampresource. com It has an amazing amount of information on it, and will help any camp staff person be better prepared for the summer.
Check out the staff area on our website, there are lots of great websites listed there for you all to explore. :0)

ReplyDeletehttp://www.girlscouts.org/for_adults/volunteering/articles/leave_no_trace.asp
Both of these are really good websites if you want to educate yourself about Leave No Trace Environmental Ethics. The first one is the official website where you can watch a video in which people from the national park service will explain the principles to you. The second one explains the principles in a way that applies more directly to Girl Scouts. I found these sites incrediblly useful when I wanted to review the LNT principles for this summer.
Tigger posted some really cool websites, greenghoulie.com had some fun songs on it, as well as a couple of good game ideas. I especially liked the weather coconut :) (If the coconut is on fire, run!) I'm really excited that she found a good dutch oven cooking website as well, I've been wanting to start cooking things in dutch ovens again at camp and I think it will be good to gather recipies.

ReplyDeleteSome new ideas for pack out meals, so it's not just pudgie pies and alpine spaghetti every week. Obviously there would need to be some portion adjustment, but some of these recipes sound easy and delicious. I would love to try cinnamon buns for breakfast and taco pizza for dinner sometime.
For Gingko's leave no trace website, I like the part about leaving what you find. I know a lot of the time at the waterfront and the trout stream, girls like to collect rocks and they almost always want to keep them, which we always discourage, because if everybody took a bunch of rocks, pretty soon there wouldn't be any left, and we want to make sure that everyone gets to enjoy every bit of camp, so we can't let people take it with them or there won't be anything left next year!
As for Tigger's post, I want to try cornbread, because it looks super easy and I love cornbread!
