Goal Setting
We all claim that camp has changed us for the better and helped us become who we are today. Camp continues to do this for all staff and campers, and many times it starts with goal setting. What do you want to get out of camp this summer? What do you hope your campers get out of camp this summer? How do you or other people help your growing and learning at camp? These are all questions to keep in mind as we enter into the summer.
Challenge: What is a personal goal you have for this summer?
Prize goes to the first FOUR posts: A Girl Scout Cookie Scented Stick-On & an unsolved logic puzzle.

Every year at camp is a little bit different- the staff changes, the rules change, we try new things and get rid of old things. I feel like often times I'm somewhat resistant to these changes (i.e. changing the schedule... 5 times during the summer). My goal for this summer is to be more open to changes and trying out new things even if they don't work out. Also, to be more observant to giving out beads, because I always forget about that until unit campfire comes around then I have to think of stuff really quickly.
ReplyDeleteMy personal goal(s) at camp include really trying to learn & remember all the girls names for that week, not just my own kids. I also want to broaden my liking for other programs such as horse, water, and trip involved groups.
ReplyDeleteOne of my personal goals for this summer is to make nature a bigger part of camp, and spread nature activities around to more program areas. I believe that nature fun should happen in more areas than just the Nature Center. So I'm going to introduce the rest of the staff to some easy, fun nature activities that can be done in other areas around camp without prior knowledge or any special supplies. I think that this will help to build up the Nature program again; the rebuilding was started last summer so I want to find lots of ways to continue bringing the program back.

One of my goals is to make lessons at the barn more engaging and fun, especially for the beginner riding groups. Last summer I worked with beginner groups a lot, but I got into a teaching routine that wasn't very exciting for me or the campers, and I had a hard time getting out of that routine. I want to make lessons about more than just teaching basic skills and riding in a circle. One way I'm going to try to do that is by incorporating more games into lessons. I remember the day Squirrel led lesson time in the arena and played all kinds of games with the campers. It was a great way for the campers to get more out of riding, and they were really enjoying themselves! :)
ReplyDeleteI think my goal would be to really get to know all the staff and campers. I would especially like to be able to help the girls in the leadership sessions discover what type of leaders they are and help them learn to work with people of other leading and learning styles. I think that in turn this will help me think more about working with people of other styles and will help me become a better leader in the long run. To be honest, I hope to learn as much as I teach this summer because I think that is the best way for all parties involved to grow and succeed.
