Now, to make Tie-Dye Tuesday happen, we need to have the campers tie-dye as soon as possible.... meaning Monday morning everybody in camp will have to find time to Tie-Dye - Yay!
My idea is Tie-dye and team building Mondays 10-12. I added in the team building because it is so important at camp for campers to learn to work together, trust others, and how to communicate, and most of our programs do some team building already. This will be a great "first activity" at camp for you to get to know your campers better and for them to come together as a group (which will hopefully carry on throughout the week). What do you all think? (Especially counselors, because you will be the ones facilitating the team building activities) As for ideas and resources, you will have LOTS (I can post a bunch online on the camp website or on my blog ahead of time and then we'll actually do some of them during staff training)
Happy Camping,

ReplyDeleteI like this idea a lot! Especially since so many campers want to tie-dye, but either don't have time during u-picks or are riding/doing other program stuff during this time. It would also be a great way to include everyone so they can all bring home something from camp.
My only concern is: Tie-dye takes a while to set, wash, and dry before you can wear it. Are we going to be washing them so that they don't bleed onto the campers' other clothing?
Recommendation: Tie-dye Thursday? (or something else so we have more time to ensure proper tie-dye care and maximum camper excitement about their awesome tie-dying abilities)

ReplyDeleteGood point Wolf. I don't think we will have enough time for this to all happen for Tuesday. Could we some how incorporate tie dye into opening day? I am not sure this can happen but I would love to hear what others think. :0)
I was just figuring I would have a late night after Monday nights All Camp.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we did it between dinner and opening campfire?
In the interest of not staying up super late on Sunday night, I think I'd rather do it on Monday morning and just have tie-dye Thursday.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what are they going to tie-dye? Are we going to provide t-shirts or white bandannas or something? I know not ever girl brings something to tie-dye to camp, and we definitely don't want to leave anyone out of tie-dye awesomeness...
D'Q- I like the bandanna idea a lot! Cheap, easy, and quick. We as a staff during pre-camp could probably get t-shirts and tie-dye them to wear for inspiration while the girls are doing their bandannas throughout the summer :)
ReplyDeleteWe could Tye Dye on opening day we could even do a little u picks in main field while we are waiting for rotations to start of for dinner to start. That way we would have lots of time for squirrel to deal with the tye dye and campers having somthing fun to do right away when they get to camp and aren't just sitting around.
